openHistorian High Availability / Clustering

Dec 17, 2015 at 10:58 PM

I have stumbled across openPDC and the GPA and thank you for what looks like amazing software.

I am investigating using openHistorian in a manufacturing environment and wanted to check on support for high availability.

I see from some discussions in openPDC that openPDC / openHistorian will work with a Windows Failover cluster but with that it must have shared data storage.

Do you have any approaches / recommendations for a situation with each historian instance having distinct storage? From what I understand, it is possible to exchange data between two historian instances via an output adapter.

I assume it would need some kind of logic / wrapper on top of openHistorian to decide which server is active and which is standby and start / stop the service appropriately, but would that work?

Fail over cluster is not an issue - you can setup an assigned shared drive that will follow the active cluster...

Be happy to discuss further...
