Relational Database?

Dec 14, 2015 at 8:29 AM
Hi there,

Everywhere I look on the internet, I see that a RDBMS is not the way to go for a (time-series) historian. From what I could deduct in the source code, the OpenHistorian is based on MySQL or MS SQL etc... Does anyone has experience with large databases? Many tags, many points...? Is there some kind of 'preparation' of the data before it goes in the database to tackle this issue?

Thanks already for your thoughts!

Kind regards,
Filip.

This is not RDBMS based - it used a relational database only to store "meta-data" about the points being archived.

The system is designed for high-speed time-series data storage - with a very efficient data storage size footprint.
